the great south bay gets a little "choppy" -- people say there's "white caps."

but what would you say, those were 30 foot swells? more?

of course now i see there are bunches of similar, cool vids, like this

you ever take your boat out in the open ocean j?

Not my 19 footer. However, as a kid my dad used to pile us (mom, dad & 3 kids) on a 30 foot sloop and we would sail to Block I, Martha's Vin and Cape Cod.

When I fished commercially in the late 80's we often saw 35-45 knot winds and 10-20 foot swells in the winter off of Cape Hatteras - that used to get the blood moving!! Even with full foul weather gear we'd end up soaking wet after working on deck for the day.
